Basic sentence

きょねん　にほんで　とけいを　かいました。

Kyonen Nihon de tokee o kaimashita.I bought a watch in Japan last year.

Use

1. Used when talking about a past action.

Structure

V	ました。
	ませんでした。

:Only studied in MARUGOTO (Starter A1 Rikai)

Examples

①きょねん　にほんで　かわいい　ふくを　かいました。

　Kyonen Nihon de kawaii fuku o kaimashita.　I bought cute clothes in Japan last year.

②きょねんの　たんじょうびに　ははに　ぼうしを
　あげました。

　Kyonen no tanjoobi ni haha ni booshi o agemashita.　I gave my mother a hat for her birthday last year.

③A：くつを　かいましたか。

　A: Kutsu o kaimashita ka.　A: Did you buy shoes?

　B：いいえ、くつは　かいませんでした。

　B: Iie, kutsu wa kaimasendeshita.　B: No, I didn't.

Commentary

1. A.　「Vました」is past affirmative.
   「Vませんでした」is past negative.
