Basic sentence

おすしは　おいしかったです。でも、たかかったです。

Osushi wa oishikatta desu. Demo, takakatta desu.The sushi was good. But, it was expensive.

かぶきは　きれいでした。そして、おもしろかったです。

Kabuki wa kiree deshita. Soshite, omoshirokatta desu.The kabuki play was beautiful and interesting.

Use

1. 「でも」 is used when adding a comment that goes against a particular state of affairs.
2. 「そして」 is used when adding a comment in line with a particular state of affairs.

Examples

①アイスクリームを　食べました。おいしかったです。でも、
　小さかったです。

　Aisu-kuriimu o tabemashita. Oishikatta desu. Demo, chiisakatta desu.　I ate an ice cream. It was delicious, but it was small.

②とうきょうタワーを　見ました。でも、ふじさんは
　見ませんでした。

　Tookyoo-Tawaa o mimashita. Demo, Fujisan wa mimasendeshita.　I saw Tokyo Tower. However, I didn't see Mt. Fuji.

③そばを　食べました。たいへんでした。でも、
　おいしかったです。

　Soba o tabemashita. Taihen deshita. Demo, oishikatta desu.　I ate soba noodles. It was hard, but they were tasty.

④かぶきを　見ました。きれいでした。そして、
　おもしろかったです。

　Kabuki o mimashita. Kiree deshita. Soshite, omoshirokatta desu.　I watched a kabuki play. It was beautiful and interesting.

⑤べんきょうは　むずかしいです。そして、つまらないです。

　Benkyoo wa muzukashii desu. Soshite, tsumaranai desu.　Studying is difficult. Also, it's boring.

Commentary

1. A.　「でも」 shows that the speaker is adding a negative comment to a previous positive comment (①②), or vice-versa (③).（＋／＋）
2. B.　「そして」 shows that the speaker is adding a positive comment to a previous positive comment (④), or a negative comment to a previous negative comment (⑤).（＋／＋）
